Description
Description
Through the 'Eternal' collection, the British artist Damien Hirst presents a series of motifs that can be read as emblematic of the cycle of life, rendered eternal in Lalique crystal.
The half-opened blades of the scissors in Eternal Cross recall both religious and scientific themes. Used vividly by the artist within the bronze sculpture Saint Bartholomew, Exquisite Pain (2006), as one of the two tools by which the martyred apostle flayed himself (the other being the traditional scalpel), the artist simultaneously associates the tool with both precision and pain.
