Lalique creations are crafted in crystal using exceptional savoir-faire. Like any precious object, each piece deserves particular care. A few simple gestures will help preserve its brilliance and beauty over time.

How to preserve a crystal decorative object?

Crystal is a delicate material, sensitive to impacts, friction, and temperature variations. To preserve the brilliance and quality of your Lalique creations over time, proper care is essential. Some pieces feature a specific finish, such as the lustering, the patina, gold leaf, or the platinum stamp techniques. These delicate finishes are particularly sensitive to friction and impacts, which can cause scratches or matter removal.

  • Avoid thermal shocks and sudden temperature changes.
  • Avoid any contact with harsh or abrasive products (detergents, solvents).
  • Clean your piece gently using a chamois or a soft, clean cloth.

We strongly advise against using a dishwasher for your crystal decorative objects.

By following these care instructions, you will durably preserve the beauty and brilliance of your Lalique crystal creations.

How to care for tableware?

We recommend washing Lalique glasses by hand.

  • Always hold the glass by the bowl rather than by the stem.
  • When drying, avoid twisting the bowl and the stem in opposite directions, as this could create tension and break the stem.

Lalique decanters should also be washed by hand.

  • Avoid leaving wine in the decanter. Rinse it immediately after use with lukewarm water.
  • Allow the moisture to evaporate by placing the decanter upside down to dry. To facilitate drying, insert a piece of absorbent paper into the neck and avoid replacing the stopper immediately.

If a whitish film appears, pour a few handfuls of coarse salt and half a litre of white vinegar into the decanter. Shake gently, then rinse several times with lukewarm water.

How to clean crystal jewellery?

Lalique jewellery, like all precious jewellery, is delicate and requires particular care.

  • Protect your jewellery from shocks, especially against hard surfaces or during physical activities.
  • Clean your jewellery regularly by hand using a dry cloth or a microfibre cloth.
  • Avoid immersing it in liquids (the chlorinated water in swimming pools oxidises the metal).
  • Avoid contact with substances that may affect its brilliance (perfume, hairspray, detergents, etc.).
  • When not worn, store your jewellery in its individual case to prevent friction with other pieces.

ADDITIONAL CARE TIPS

Can crystal glasses be washed in the dishwasher?

We recommend washing crystal pieces by hand to preserve their brilliance and delicacy. Dishwasher detergents, high temperatures, and friction during the washing cycle can dull the shine of the crystal and weaken the piece. Gentle cleaning with lukewarm water and a soft cloth is therefore recommended.

How can I remove limescale from a crystal vase?

Fill the vase with a mixture of lukewarm water and white vinegar and let it sit for a few minutes. For hard-to-reach areas, you can add a few grains of rice and gently swirl the mixture to help loosen the limescale deposits.

What should I do if my crystal becomes dull?

Over time, crystal may lose its brilliance due to limescale deposits, detergent residue, or frequent dishwasher use. Gentle cleaning with lukewarm water and a small amount of white vinegar can help restore its shine.

How can I remove a white mark from crystal?

White marks are usually caused by limescale deposits. To remove them, soak the item for a few minutes in lukewarm water with a little white vinegar, then rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
